Lauri Stenroth, PhD student
I’m currently working on my PhD thesis titled “Function and adaptation of Achilles tendon and plantar flexors to physical activity and ageing” under the supervision of prof. Taija Finni, PhD Neil J. Cronin and prof. Sarianna Sipilä. The work is done in close collaboration with the Gerontology Research Center, GEREC. The aim of the thesis is to examine age-related differences in muscle and tendon between young and old adults, and to explore how different properties of muscle and tendon affect muscle function in locomotion. The results of the thesis will provide new insight into muscle-tendon adaptation with ageing and will enhance knowledge about the etiology of age-related loss of mobility from a biomechanical perspective.

Research interests
My current research interests include muscle-tendon mechanics and tendon properties and adaptation. Through research I try to improve understanding of:
- training/sports
- ageing
- disease (tendinopathy and tendon injury).
